Kaba Door Systems helps Colchester General Hospital to achieve their commitment to treating all patients with privacy and dignity Kaba Door Systems is working with Colchester General Hospital to facilitate their commitment to treating all patients with privacy and dignity in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Department of Health. In May 2007, the Chief Nursing Officer issued a report to all NHS trusts and health authorities entitled ‘Privacy and Dignity – A report into mixed sex accommodation in hospitals.’ This report highlighted the Healthcare Commission’s annual survey which showed that most patients feel that being treated with respect and dignity as a whole is more important than just being in single sex wards. The report highlights the provision of doors on bays which ensure privacy and quietness, areas for confidential discussions, improved screening that offers visual and auditory privacy and welcoming entrances as just some of the ways that privacy and dignity can be increased for patients. Colchester General Hospital’s commitment to ensuring that all patients are treated with privacy and dignity in a safe, clean and comfortable hospital not only include the fitting of automatic doors with privacy bands, but also include installing additional bathrooms, providing new and clear signage along with dividing wards into single sex ends. Nineteen sets of bespoke single slide automatic doors with fixed side screens have been designed by Kaba for ward bays at various internal locations within Colchester General Hospital. Each fixed side screen incorporates a dry wipe board which will provide a practical solution for staff who can use the wipe boards for recording patient information. Fitted with frosted manifestations, the doors ensure privacy in sensitive areas. Each door is activated by a touch-less sensor which not only helps to prevent the spread of germs as no manual contact is required to the doors or surrounding areas but they also allow unhindered access for both staff and patients. Kaba Door Systems has over 80 years international experience in the design, manufacture and installation of a leading range of commercial and industrial door systems. With regional centres across the UK, Kaba also offers a nationwide entry repair and maintenance service. The company is a member of the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) and is NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA) approved |
